In this podcast I discuss some of the fundamentals of jet ski racing, give some recent race results and give props to the APBA rider of the week.
Almost anyone with a jet ski can fairly easily get into the sport of jet ski racing. Well first thing you are going to need is a ski to race on. In the 4th show, the Sport Spec racing podcast I discussed how I thought that this was an ideal class for a new racer but you can really race almost any ski you have as long it is considered safe and has a working lanyard kill switch. You will also need a Snell approved motocross style full face helmet helmet, goggles and a type 3 life vest. This is the absolute minimum requirements for safety equipment but I would also have to recommend a good pair of racing gloves.

New race promoter H2X Tour, formerly Hot Water Tour, has a new winning formula for race promotion and introducing new riders to the sport. In an April 10 press release, H2X Tour announced that all events will be a three day format with endurance racing and a Beginner Race School on Fridays.
Endurance racing has only been offered by a limited number of promoter and usually was not offered during closed course race events. An endurance race held prior to the weekend’s closed course racing is an excellent opportunity to learn the course and get in some extended practice as well as expose closed course racers to endurance racing. The races will range from a 45 minute plus one lap race for Pro-AM Open class to a 30 minute plus one lap for Pro-Am Stock and Novice Stock classes.
Perhaps the most exciting thing this forward thinking promoter is doing for the sport is the Beginner Race School being held Fridays prior to the weekend’s racing. The three hour school will cover how to set up your ski, register for races, pre and post race procedures, core strengthening exercises, ski maintenance, basic and advanced riding techniques, and starting and timing techniques. The classes will be taught by multi-time APBA National Champion and Pro Racer Rob Greenwald. Rob has taught race schools for several years and has privately instructed many successful racers. The race school will also offer each beginner the opportunity to race against the clock with the fastest beginner receiving prizes, a set of Hydro Turf Moto mats for their ski and a trophy. I don’t think any new racer could ask for a more exciting introduction to the sport.
